Welcome to the Lady Victoria corner of the Queen's Rowing website. The Lady Victoria Boat Club exists to support and develop rowing at Queen's University. Membership is open to anyone who has ever rowed for, coached or supported either the Men’s or Ladies’ Boat Club, be it for one term, or many years. 100% of your subscription goes to rowing at Queen's, including funding our professional coach.
Many great friendships have been forged through the more than 75 years of rowing at Queen's. It is our aim to continue these friendships through Lady Victoria social events, whilst supporting the students at the same time.
This page is to keep you informed on what is going on at Lady Victoria. In due course we plan to create an archive of all the crews that have represented Queen's and use this to reignite old friendships. But we are a team of volunteers and this will take time, so we ask for your help or your patience.
A Message about the 2014-15 Season from our Captain, Maurice Warnock
Hello all members,
The Ladies' and Men’s Boat Clubs of Queen's University, as well as the masters' squad of Lady Victoria have had some
reasonable success. At the Irish
Championships, the head coach and the volunteer coaches did a solid job in
achieving some notable successes at Novice and Club levels. However, there
are many challenges that lie ahead, in that the numbers of volunteer coaches and
donors remain at a critical level. Their continued involvement and contribution
is absolutely vital if Queen’s Rowing is to keep moving forward and to raise
the standard of student rowing so that they can compete at senior level.
Queen’s Sport continue to provide financial and logistical
support for the University Boat Race, teenagers' summer scheme, rowing academy bursaries, and
backing for the extension to the boathouse and new slipway.
Over the last 18 months, it has become evident that the role of the Head Coach at Queen's has
become too extensive for one person to reasonably contend with. Through discussions with Queen’s
Sport it was decided to prioritise and
re-evaluate this role. As a result a job plan will be drawn up each year, between Queen’s Sport, the head coach, and a representative from Lady Victoria. The head coach job plan has highlighted the need for regular, quality communication
between Lady Victoria, the head coach, Queen’s Sport and the student clubs, via
their captains. To this end, a liaison officer has also been appointed by Lady Victoria to maintain regular
communication between all the relevant parties.
If you think you could contribute in any way to the cause of rowing at Queen's, be it through fundraising, offering assistance on a Saturday morning with the novice men and ladies, helping out with the porridge and pasta catering weekend arrangements, or in any other way, please contact me, or any committee member. Thank you.
Yours in rowing,
Maurice
